Flood risk forces 600 residents to relocate in Jiangxi

Massive rainfall and ensuing floods since Saturday have forced many residents to relocate in east China's Jiangxi Province.

By 4 p.m. Monday, more than 600 residents in counties of Lichuan Nanfeng and Yihuang had been relocated, according to a statement issued by the provincial flood control and drought relief department.

By 8 a.m. Monday, precipitation over the past 24 hours exceeded 100 mm in five counties, cities and districts of the province, the statement said.

The weather forecast station of the province issued an alert at 7:40 a.m., forecasting heavy rainstorm over the coming 12 hours in cities of Pingxiang, Yichun, Fuzhou, Xinyu, Ji'an and Nanchang, as well as southern part of Shangrao.

Local flood control departments have been ordered to be on duty around the clock to help flight disaster caused by floods.
