Top political advisor urges promotion of green economy

China's top political advisor Jia Qinglin has urged the country to promote its green economy.

Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, made the remarks in a letter he sent to a conference on the green economy held Thursday in the city of Suining of southwest China's Sichuan province.

Promotion of the green economy will help advance progress in energy saving and clean production, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote sustainable development in China, he said.

Moreover, it will lead to further scientific and technological development, facilitate the development of strategic emerging industries and the optimization of traditional industries, he said.

The green economy will contribute to the country's efforts in environmental protection and the improvement of people's living standards, Jia said.

Developing the green economy brings the country closer towards reaching the goal of harmony between man and nature, he said.

In his letter, Jia said he appreciated the efforts and achievements Suining had made in the development of the green economy.
