A kindergarten teacher in East China has been suspended after she was caught on camera hitting one of her students.
Video footage of the woman, identified only as Zhang, appears to show her scolding a crying boy in front of about 20 children in class and then slapping him.
The incident reportedly happened on May 8 in Jinan, capital of Shandong Province, while the footage was uploaded to a micro blog website on May 14, drawing heavy criticism.
The teacher was suspended, Zhu Yan, the owner of Yuxing Kindergarten, told Shandong Business Daily.
She said that Zhang had worked at the school for two and a half years, and had a good reputation. However, if the allegations about abuse are proven, she will be dismissed, she added.
Wang Wei, education director for the district, said authorities are conducting an investigation and if the teacher is found to have broken the rules, she may be banned from working as kindergarten teacher.
