Look for the organic food crowd to gather at The Hutong this Saturday for Food Revolution Day. The venue is planning an organic food fair with everything from info on composting and growing food at home to cooking demonstrations and meeting with farmers.
Workers' Stadium speakeasy Fubar actually seems determined to get its customers FUBAR, or to at least get them off of the city's rooftops and indoors this summer. Fubar has started a series of deals from 7 pm to 9 pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays respectively. Those in search of weekend value in the wee hours might want to stop in for a 100 yuan ($16) all-you-can-drink deal that runs from 1 am to 4 am. That one covers Whiskey Sours, White Russians, Harbin beer and half a dozen other drinks.
Look for a new sports bar to soon open near Beixinqiao Subway Station, not far from Yugong Yishan. The venue will be non-smoking, seat around 30 patrons and focus on "football" of all kinds. Expect everything from NFL to the Premier League to possibly some Aussie rules. According to people behind the venture, the bar will stock between 10 to 20 beers, including a pair on draft, and serve basic pub grub like hot dogs and burgers, as well as cheese plates and salads.
The annual Taste of the Nations by Torres is arguably the best wine portfolio tasting in Beijing. This year's event tasting will be held at Wish Restaurant and Lounge on May 26. That means access to 61 wines from 25 family-owned operations, with eight winery reps on hand for this year's tasting.
Flamme will reintroduce its all-you-can-drink Stella draft deal, starting in June. Spend your Mondays with a free flow of draft and potato chips for 100 yuan (not available on holidays). The buy one, get one free steak deal on Tuesdays and the daily happy hour, with 50 percent off beer, wine by the glass and cocktails from 3 pm to 7:30 pm, will continue at Flamme.
New wine bar Gramercy, just across from Blue Frog in You-Town, has added plenty of outdoor seating, though late night patrons still need to use the toilets in the hotel next door. Bar consultant Paul Mathew is designing a full line of Mexican-themed cocktails for Q Mex, a new restaurant and bar being opened in Sanlitun South by the owners of Q Bar. Expect Mexican twists on classics such as the Manhattan, Negroni and Moscow Mule, along with one cocktail that is an intriguing combination of cinnamon, vanilla and Jalapeno peppers.
Finally, sports fans should reserve May 26 in their calendars as the Beijing Hilton will hold its fourth annual pole-dancing competition.
