Taiwan recorded an unemployment rate of 4.10 percent in April, down 0.07 percentage points from March and the lowest monthly level since August 2008, the island's statistics authorities announced on Tuesday.

The number of employed people on the island climbed to 10.82 million in April, up 12,000, or 0.11 percent, from March, while the jobless population slipped to 463,000, down 7,000 from the previous month.

While announcing the figures, a spokesperson said Taiwan's overall labor market remained stable, but the number of jobs newly created in April was not as high as in the same period last year, when it stood at 19,000.

Meanwhile, figures also showed that the island's regular monthly salary in March averaged 37,360 new Taiwanese dollars (about 1,265 U.S. dollars), up 2.04 percent year on year, while the total monthly salary, including bonuses and overtime pay, averaged 41,298 new Taiwanese dollars, down 2.02 percent from February.
