Senior legislator in Cambodia to boost ties

Lu Yongxiang, Vice-Chairman of the 11th National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee of China, arrived here on Sunday afternoon after spending his first day visiting the Angkor Archeological Park, one of the world heritage sides, in Cambodia's Siem Reap province.

In Siem Reap, Lu was welcomed and accompanied by Chheang Von, Chairman of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Commission at Cambodia's National Assembly, and Chinese ambassador to Cambodia Pan Guangxue.

Arriving at the Phnom Penh International Airport on Sunday afternoon, Lu was greeted by Cambodian senior assemblymen including Cheam Yeap, Chairman of the Commission on Economy, Finance, Banking, and Audit, and Hou Sreu, Vice-Chairman of the Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Commission.

During his stay in Phnom Penh, Lu will be received in royal audience by Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni and he will meet with Cambodian leaders including Heng Samrin, President of the National Assembly, Prime Minister Hun Sen, and Say Chhum, the first Vice- President of the senate, Cheam Yeap told Xinhua at the airport.

"The visit will further enhance traditional and long-standing friendship relations between the two countries' legislative and executive bodies," he said.

Lu will stay in Cambodia until May 29.
