Woman dies after saving boy from crash

A 67-year-old woman was hit by a van and died after she saved a 3-year-old boy, the Dahe Daily reported on May 30.

The accident happened at 11 am on May 26 when Peng Xiuying pulled Liu Hanshuo out of the way when she saw a van speeding towards him. However, she was hit by the van and seriously injured, said Liu Pan, the boy's aunt, who witnessed the accident.

The boy's head was hit by the van's wheel as the driver backed the car after realizing he hit someone, a witness said.

The rescued boy is out of danger and will recover soon, said a local doctor in Huaiyang, a township in Zhoukou city in Central China's Henan province.

"The boy would be intact if the driver hadn't backed the car," the witness added.

Peng's daughter said that while she was grieving she was also glad her mother was able to help the boy. "I am so proud of my mother," she said.
