Haidian district police yesterday said they are investigating an alleged fraud case after parents claimed a swindler promised to get their children into a military academy but failed to deliver, the Legal Mirror reported.
Hu Shumeng, the accused, allegedly convinced two mothers he had connections to a Wuhan, Hubei Province, institute and, for a price, could request admission into the army for their children. The mothers paid Hu 600,000 yuan ($94,140) and 1 million yuan each in 2008. Hu has never made good on his claims.
