Police in southwest China's Yunnan province arrested three suspected drug smugglers and confiscated 10.08 kg of drugs on Monday, local authorities said.
Border police in Lincang county intercepted a suspicious SUV around 12:50 a.m. and found 7.454 kg of heroin and 2.626 kg of crystal meth hidden in the car.
The police arrested the two suspects in the car and caught another man half an hour later. The two suspects have provided confessions.
According to Chinese law, people who smuggle, sell, transport or manufacture an amount of heroin greater than 50 grams can be sentenced to 15 years in jail, life imprisonment or even death.
Yunnan borders Myanmar, Laos and Thailand and sits close to the "Golden Triangle" region, which is notorious for rampant drug production and trafficking.
