Fire control to be tightened across China

2012-06-20 09:32 Xinhua    comment

A national campaign is to close loopholes in fire control ahead of the upcoming 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

Police nationwide will launch a thorough inspection of fire control facilities in every institution, building, community and village from this month, announced Liu Jinguo, vice minister of public security, on Tuesday.

Large venues, places vulnerable to explosions and fire, the basements of high rise buildings and construction sites will top the inspection list, Liu said.

The 18th CPC National Congress is to be held in the latter half of 2012.

The campaign will have three big actions, according to Liu. In August, police will inspect petrochemical plants and petrol stations.

During National Day vacation, they will run inspections of fire control at tourist sites and, before and during the congress, entertainment venues, hotels and restaurants will be checked, according to Liu.

Police will also work with communities, schools and youth organizations to conduct fire drills for employees, residents and students before September.
