Police in south China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region have cracked a massive drug trafficking ring and confiscated 18.6 kg of heroin, local authorities announced on Thursday.
The police caught six suspects on June 20 and seized the heroin and 19.6 grams of methamphetamine, according to the public security bureau of Chongzuo City, which borders Vietnam.
They also confiscated 14.5 kg of gold bars, three cars and 5.7 million yuan (901,899 U.S. dollars) of cash.
The police have cracked 10 drug trafficking gangs and caught 232 suspects in Chongzuo city this year and seized 118.38 kg of drugs.
According to Chinese law, people who smuggle, sell, transport or manufacture an amount of heroin greater than 50 grams can be sentenced to 15 years in jail, life imprisonment or even death.
