China's procurator-general has addressed a conference on investigating and preventing employment crime with a call for procuratorial agencies nationwide to improve their work in the field.
Investigation should be strengthened to better serve the anti-corruption cause and safeguard economic and social development, Cao Jianming said at the event on Thursday.
However, Cao also stressed that the investigations must be conducted legally and properly.
Lawyers' rights, including their right to meet clients during the investigation procedure, should be ensured and the procuratorates must collect the evidence in accordance with the law, Cao said.
Efforts should be made to ensure the smooth conducting of investigations as well as the legitimate rights of the suspects, he added.
The procurator-general also called for better supervision of procuratorates' investigative work to prevent and correct any possible illegal behavior in this process.
Protection of the rights of suspects and their defenders should be a special focus in such supervision, according to Cao.
