A man, who allegedly found maggots in sausages he bought from a Daxing district supermarket, is suspected of blackmailing the manufacturer, the Shuanghui Group, the Beijing Times reported Thursday.
The man, surnamed Zhang, said his pregnant daughter suffered from vomiting and diarrhea after eating sausages containing maggots earlier this month. A commerce and industry department investigation showed the sausage met with national standards.
Shuanghui announced Wednesday that Zhang demanded compensation of 150,000 yuan ($23,580) and threatened to talk to TV.
Both parties have said they may sue the other.
