China's top meteorological authority said Wednesday that the country's northern regions will get a break from recent high temperatures, while high temperatures will continue to bake the country's south.

Thundershowers are expected to cool off the nation's northern regions on Wednesday, dragging temperatures in Beijing and Tianjin down to 30 and 33 degrees Celsius, respectively, according to a statement on the National Meteorological Center's website.

However, a heat wave will continue to cook south China, with temps reaching as high as 37 degrees Celsius, the statement said.

Some parts of south China will receive rain on Wednesday, with torrential rains forecast for parts of the Sichuan Basin and the provinces of Hubei, Jiangsu and Anhui, according to the statement.
