Senior official Li Changchun on Tuesday called on authorities at various levels to make more efforts to protect and utilize cultural relics.
The protection of cultural relics is of great importance in terms of inheriting traditional Chinese culture and meeting the public's surging cultural demands, Li, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said at a meeting attended by representatives of cultural relic authorities.
"The sound management of cultural relics will also demonstrate a good national image and boost the soft power of China, as well as do good for global cultural diversity," said Li.
Li urged governments at multiple levels to prioritize cultural relic protection and fully support the work of cultural relic workers.
State Councilor Liu Yandong also called for improved laws and regulations, enhanced protection and the full participation of the public in protecting cultural relics.
