Shanghai Shenhua hosted Beijing Guoan in the Chinese Super League on Saturday. New Shenhua addition Didier Drogba made the headlines when he arrived from English Premier League side Chelsea earlier Saturday.

All eyes were on the Cote D'Ivoire international at the stadium. The former Chelsea striker ignited the packed crowd when putting on the team's blue jersey. Then the highest-paid footballer in China shook hands with his fans, and the atmosphere was set for the match.

Drogba's arrival boosted Shenhua in the first half. Song Boxuan strikes from close range to make it 1-0, 20 minutes in.

Beijng looked to turn things around. The club put former African footballer of the year Frederic Kanoute into its lineup.

This was Kanoute's maiden Super League match, and he was in for a rude welcome. Shenhua's Cao Yunding, lobbed past the keeper. It was 2-0 right after the restart.

Guoan captain Xu Yunlong turned the ball over...and Cao was right there, at the edge of the box. Beijing goalkeeper Hou Sen was beaten on the play. Shanghai took a 2-goal cushion.

Beijing almost got a comeback started at the hour mark. Kanoute warmed up with an acrobatic volley, but he hit the post, still 2-0.

Shanghai stopped Beijing's attack and extended its lead with 15 minutes to go. Brazilian center back Moises Pinheiro taps in...and Drogba watching his new club go up 3-0.

A Beijing penalty ruined the shutout for Shenhua, but the Shanghai rivals still walked out winners. They beat Beijing Guoan 3-1.
