The city of Duyun in southwest China's Guizhou province was hit by torrential rains on Monday, leaving two people dead and another person missing, local authorities said Tuesday.
In Kaikou township, heavy rains destroyed 9,500 mu (633 hectares) of crops, damaged roads and caused power outages, the local government said.
The township was at one point isolated by the floods and more than 3,000 residents were forced to relocate to avoid possible rain-triggered floods and mudslides, the local government said.
The local government started sending food and water to affected residents on Monday, according to the local flood control and prevention headquarters.
The floodwaters had receded by Tuesday, with some residents beginning to return home. The local government has organized workers to repair damaged power and water facilities.
