Zhou Yongkang, a senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC), has called for "gallantry and readiness" in fighting injustice and helping the needy.

Zhou, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the remark Thursday while meeting with representatives of those who have been honored as "national heroic models" for their efforts to maintain social justice.

Following the meeting, Zhou awarded the title to seven individuals and three groups.

"Although coming from different regions, occupations and ethnic groups, these heroic models have displayed the Chinese tradition of fighting injustice and helping the needy fearlessly when national interests and people's lives and properties are in danger. The Party and the people thank you," Zhou said.

Zhou urged Party and government organizations at all levels to increase rewards for "heroic acts" and establish a long-term support system for Good Samaritans and their families.

Zhou also called for legislative efforts to protect the interests of Good Samaritans while mobilizing more people to fight social injustice.
