Several police officers, including a senior director in Wuyi, Zhejiang province, have been suspended after a suspect hung himself in the local police station during an investigation, according to Xinhua net.
Wu Xinfu, a suspect accused of attacking the government officials who tore down his "illegally built houses", was found dead at dawn on Aug 11 on the bathroom floor in the station.
County authorities have vowed to find out the facts and punish those responsible for Wu's death. A special team, led by the local procuratorate, has been formed to investigate the case, they said.
Video footage from the Wangzhai Police Station showed that Wu, a 50-year-old native of Wuyi county, picked up a wire and walked into the bathroom of the investigation room after being questioned for seven hours. He was found dead several hours later by the police.
The county government promised that the officers would be suspended until an inquiry is carried out.
