A pile-up involving eight vehicles killed five people Sunday on an interprovincial expressway in northwest China's Gansu Province, police said.
A speeding trailer truck from the central province of Henan crashed into a light van at a toll gate on the expressway linking Lanzhou, Gansu's provincial capital, with Qingdao, a port city in the eastern Shandong Province.
The collision caused a pile-up involving six other vehicles.
All the victims were on board a Honda CRV, which veered off the road after being rearended.
The cause of the accident is under investigation, said traffic police authorities in Lanzhou.
