Japan deports woman after marriage fails

A Chinese woman got deported from Japan for working illegally in the country after she and her Japanese husband got divorced, the Pudong Frontier Inspection Station reported Sunday.

The 22-year-old woman, surnamed Zhao, moved to Japan with her husband to study after they got married in 2007, according to a news release from the station. However, the marriage began to unravel after Zhao's husband started to suspect that she was having an affair with a Chinese classmate.

Doubt and suspicion led to a series of arguments and the couple eventually decided to get a divorce in October 2010, the news release said.

About one year later, Zhao's spouse visa was about to expire, but she decided to remain in Japan illegally rather than face her family following the failed marriage, the news release said. Instead, she took a job working at a restaurant, but the pay was barely enough to make ends meet.

Japanese authorities discovered earlier this month that she had overstayed her visa and sent her back to China.
