A police officer in southwest China's Guizhou province has been arrested for driving his vehicle into four pedestrians over the weekend, killing three and wounding the fourth, local authorities said Monday.
The accident happened at 11 p.m. Sunday in Tongzi county of the city of Zunyi, the publicity department of the county's Communist Party of China (CPC) committee said in a press release.
The press release said the officer is a man surnamed Liao from the Tongzi public security bureau.
The cause of the accident is under investigation, the release said, adding that it is not yet known if Liao was intoxicated at the time of the incident.
One of the four pedestrians survived with injuries and remains hospitalized.
