A police officer who was detained for driving his police car into four pedestrians over the weekend in southwest China's Guizhou Province has been identified as an auxiliary policeman, who was intoxicated at the time of driving.
The Tongzi County authority said on Tuesday the man, surnamed Liao, is an auxiliary policeman with the county's special police force.
The accident happened at 11 p.m. on Sunday in Tongzi County of the city of Zunyi. Three of the pedestrians were killed, and the fourth survived with injuries and remains hospitalized.
Investigators said Liao violated rules to use the police vehicle for his personal business at the time of the accident.
A government spokesman said Liao will be prosecuted according to laws and regulations.
