Eight people died after a motorized tricycle fell into an irrigation channel in northwest China's Gansu province Wednesday night, the local government said Thursday.
The tricycle, carrying nine people, plunged into the channel in Jingtai county in the city of Baiyin at 8:30 p.m., the county government said in a press release.
Rescuers retrieved eight people at 1:30 a.m., only one of whom was still alive, it said.
The last victim was found dead in the water at 11:40 a.m.
The cause of the accident was under investigation.
