Chinese mainland Olympics gold medallists meet HK fans

The Chinese mainland diving, swimming and sailing gold medallists at London Olympic Games met the public on Saturday in Kowlonon Park Swimming Pool in Hong Kong, impressing the audience with sports skill demonstration and face-to-face exchange.

A total of 12 gold medallists turned out, including diving champions Wu Minxia, Chen Ruolin, He Zi, Wang Hao, Qin Kai, Luo Yutong, Cao Yuan and Zhang Yanquan, swimming gold medal winners Sun Yang, Ye Shiwen and Jiao Liuyang and sailing champion Xu Lijia.

All the diving gold medallists gave demonstrations of pool-side diving, 3m springboard, 10m platform and synchronized 10m platform, heating up the hall with superb skills and free performance.

In the next session, Sun Yang who won two individual titles in London namely the 400m and 1,500m freestyle, told the fans in an interview that his mind was suddenly empty when he mistakenly jumped the gun in the men's 1,500m freestyle final, but he quickly adjusted himself and later seized the Olympic gold medal.

Asked about the future plan, Ye Shiwen, the young world record breaker said, "there are a lot of competition ahead. I hope I can do well in all of them. As for the world record, I believe as long as I work hard I can break it again."

The diving and sailing champions also had friendly chat with local youngsters and shared their experience about persevering with difficulties in order to realize their dreams.

The unexpected appearance of diving queen Fu Mingxia, thrice Olympic gold medal winner, and her family attracted the spotlight at the end of the event.

The 70-member delegation of Chinese mainland gold medallists at the recently-concluded London 2012 Olympic Games arrived in Hong Kong on Friday on a three-day visit.
