A newborn boy was rescued after he was abandoned in a toilet trash bin at a local hospital by his 17-year-old mother, who claimed she "unexpectedly" gave birth to him on Thursday, the Beijing Evening News reported Sunday.
The girl said she did not know she was pregnant, and went to the hospital due to stomach pains. Mother and son are now receiving treatment at the hospital. She could be tried with the crime of abandonment, which can mean five years' jail, a lawyer said.
