An Air China flight returned to the Beijing Capital International Airport after receiving a threatening message, the carrier said Wednesday evening.

Flight CA981 returned to Beijing out of concern for passenger safety, the carrier said in a special announcement via its official microblog account at Sina Weibo, without offering further information about the incident.

The flight, which was scheduled to depart for New York at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, will be taking off again at 11:55 p.m., according to the airport.

So far no abnormalities have been detected on the flight, as the airport security department is working to identify the threat, sources with the airport and Air China told Xinhua.

The flight will take off and police will continue to investigate the case, sources said.
