Fourth quake hits southwest China: CENC

A minor quake measuring 4.4 jolted southwest China's Yiliang county of Yunnan Province at 1:12 p.m. Friday Beijing Time, the fourth earthquake that occurred in a day in this region, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC).

The epicenter, with a depth of about 14 km, was at 27.5 degrees north latitude and 104.0 degrees east longitude.

Three earthquakes, respectively measured at 5.7, 5.6 and 3.2 magnitude, shook the border area of Yiliang county and Weining county of neighboring Guizhou Province earlier this day, the center said.

The quakes left at least five people dead in Yunnan Province as of 12:40 p.m., according to preliminary data from local civil affairs authorities.
