A chengguan (urban management officer) confiscated two snapping turtles from a man who tried to sell them in Shunyi district Saturday, the Legal Mirror reported Sunday.

The man, surnamed Xia from Jiangxi Province, lives by doing part-time jobs as he has a physical disability to his leg. He said he got the two turtles from a friend in Guangdong Province and planned to sell them.

The snapping turtle is a national protected animal, and is very aggressive. The turtles were sent to Beijing wildlife rescue center Sunday.
