China's top meteorological center on Tuesday began providing weather forecasting for the Diaoyu Islands and their surrounding waters.
Calling the move part of its official responsibilities, the China Meteorological Administration said in a statement that the Diaoyu Islands have been China's inherent territory since ancient times and the surrounding sea areas have been part of the country's traditional territorial waters.
"China has indisputable sovereignty over them," the statement reads.
Starting Tuesday, the Central Meteorological Station of China will issue forecasts on temperatures, humidity, wind speed and rainfall for the Diaoyu Islands, transmitting the information via the national broadcaster, radio and Internet media.
Also on Tuesday, the State Oceanic Administration introduced maritime environment forecasting for the sea around the Diaoyu Islands.
The moves came after the Chinese government announced the base points and baselines of the territorial waters of Diaoyu Islands on Monday.
The Japanese government's decision to "buy" the Diaoyu Islands and affiliated islets has triggered widespread protest across China.
Premier Wen Jiabao said on Monday that China will "absolutely make no concession" on issues concerning its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
