A 16-year-old student was stabbed to death near his school in Daxing district Monday.

Three suspects, including the alleged assailant, were arrested Monday night, local police confirmed Tuesday.

Wang Wei, a student at Beijing City Administration School, a vocational school under Beijing Municipal Administration Commission, was murdered at about 3 pm Monday near the gate of a supermarket 50 meters away from his school, the Beijing Times reported Tuesday.

Wang allegedly became involved in a dispute with three males, one of whom stabbed Wang several times before all three fled.

The manger of a nearby supermarket said that he saw Wang, bloody and injured on the back and buttocks, with the suspects running down the street.

It took 20 minutes for paramedics to arrive, but Wang had already died at the scene, said the report.

An officer from Daxing public security bureau, who asked for anonymity, said he could not reveal the alleged assailant's identity, but said that the three suspects had confessed.

Wang's brother-in-law told the Beijing Times that he feels the school should be held accountable.

The school's media officer, surnamed Zou, said that as Monday was Teachers' Day, all students and staff had a half-day holiday.

"The murder happened outside the school at 3:20 pm when the students were already off school," he said, adding that whether they have responsibility depends on the result of the police investigation.

Hong Daode, a criminal law professor at the China University of Political Science and Law, said the school will bear civil responsibility for the student's death.

"The incident happened when the school still had guardianship over students because Teachers' Day is not a statutory holiday," said Hong.
