2012-09-16 19:54 Xinhua     Web Editor: Zang Kejia comment

Senior Taiwan politician Lien Chan said he and his wife will donate 10 million New Taiwan Dollars (340,000 U.S. dollars) to quake-hit Yunnan, a province in the mainland's southwest.

Lien Chan, honorary chairman of the Kuomintang (KMT) Party, made the remarks at the opening ceremony of a symposium on cross-Strait economic cooperation and cultural exchanges on Sunday.

Lien said thousands of people have been affected by the quake that jolted Yunnan on Sept. 7, and he felt great sorrow for mainland compatriots suffering from the disaster.

Lien said he will also cooperate with relevant non-governmental organizations in Taiwan to help local governments continue disaster relief work.

Local governments expressed their gratefulness after Lien's speech.
