Seven people were killed and 10 others injured after a heavy-duty truck collided with an oncoming agricultural tricycle in north China's Hebei Province Saturday morning, local authorities said.
The accident occurred when the truck crashed head-on into the tricyle on the other side of the road in Longhua county in the city of Chengde while overtaking other vehicles, the city government said in a press release.
Three of the 17 people aboard the tricycle were killed at the scene and four died after emergency treatment failed. The rest 10, all injured, were being treated at a local hospital, according to the statement.
The truck driver, a native of Inner Mongolia north to Hebei, was held by police.
An investigation into the cause of the accident is underway.
