Twelve flights linking east China's port city of Qingdao with airports in Japan and the Republic of Korea (ROK) were canceled Monday morning as the 16th typhoon of the year Sanba approaches.

The Liuting International Airport in Qingdao canceled the flights disrupting trips for around 1,100 passengers. Few stranded passengers were at the airport, as airline companies had informed travelers with the flight information.

The typhoon was heading towards the southern coast of the ROK Monday morning, with winds of 45 meters per second. Heavy downpours were forecast in eastern and southern parts of China from Monday to Tuesday morning, according to the China Central Meteorological Station.
