Vice Premier Li Keqiang on Monday called on Qatar, host of an upcoming UN climate change conference, to play a positive role in aiding climate change negotiations.

"With the Doha climate change conference months away, we expect Qatar to play a positive role in obtaining substantive results from negotiations regarding the Bali Roadmap," Li said during a Monday meeting with Abdullah Bin Hamad Al-Attiyah, president of Qatar's Administrative Control and Transparency Authority.

Al-Attiyah is also president of the 18th Conference of the Parties (COP18) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), which will be held in Doha in December.

Li called on developed countries to substantially cut carbon emissions and honor their commitment to offer more financing and aid regarding technology transfers.

Li reaffirmed that the international community should work together to tackle climate change by restructuring their economies, promoting environmental protection and developing low-carbon economies.

Li called for countries to observe the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, especially the principle of "common but differentiated responsibilities."

Li called on energy producers and consumers to work more closely and ensure market stability. He also suggested that China and Qatar should establish long-term, stable and mutually beneficial energy cooperation.

Al-Attiyah said he would like to step up communications with China regarding climate change and help all parties make joint efforts to tackle the issue, as well as see Qatar advance energy-related cooperation with China.
