Top tennis players from the Asia-Pacific region will have the chance to win a valuable wildcard into the Australian Open at the inaugural Asia-Pacific Wildcard Play-off set for Nanjing, in east China in October. The Asia Pacific Wildcard Play-off initiative was announced today in Beijing.
Along with the magnificent Australian Open women's trophy, the Daphne Akhurst Memorial Cup, Premier of Victoria Ted Baillieu and Grand Slam champion and 2011 Australian Open finalist Li Na were all at present to celebrate. Premier Baillieu announced that the wildcard play-off is schduled from 15th-21st, October at the Nanjing Sport Institute. Both male and female winners of the play-off will be awarded a wildcard into the main draw of the Australian Open.
Meanwhile, Tennis Australia CEO Steve Wood announced...a new exchange program with the China Open will see six Chinese ball kids displaying their skills on court at the Australian Open. Obviousely, Li Na's success has boosted the sport greatly in China. Now, she hopes more Chinese talents could come up.
