WeiboNation: Moon cake madness

2012-09-24 15:58 Global Times     Web Editor: Zang Kejia comment

Mid-Autumn Festival this year falls on September 30, but moon cakes are already a common sight on the street and on supermarket shelves. The festival's traditional snack comes with a variety of fillings, including nuts, red and green bean paste, ham, eggs and even ice cream. Some Weibo users salivated over which flavored moon cakes they were looking forward to sinking their teeth into this Mid-Autumn Festival, while others revealed they find the treat less than appetizing.

@Mu_pingting-qingjiujiu: I don't like moon cakes I get from my work. Wouldn't it be better to get some allowance to buy something better?

@Pudding not jelly: I love moon cakes! A Mid-Autumn Festival without moon cakes is lonesome, incomplete and unconventional! I love all sweet moon cakes!

@James dull: I don't like eating moon cakes. Now, we buy them just for eating them. Where did the previous atmosphere go?

@Lao Bai: I like moon cakes, but I hate the gift packaging they come in. They often come with presents irrelevant to the dessert, such as pens, watches and even necklaces. These kinds of things are potentially hazardous to people's health and should not go with the moon cakes.

@Ali Lin Xiufeng: I was really happy to attend a moon cake-making stall, where my wife, son and I made our own moon cakes. My wife was so dedicated and my son looked as if he couldn't wait to eat them.

@Dishanshuang: I think if one has never eaten moon cakes stuffed with meat, his life is not complete. They really are delicious.

@Liweixi-livc: I don't like moon cakes. They are a meaningless, boring treat. I find nothing special about the Mid-Autumn Festival.

@Xiaoxiaoxiaoxiao: Moon cakes nowadays, especially those from supermarkets, are too sweet to eat. I really miss the handmade ones from my youth.

@Windblow-fall: I used to hate eating nut-filled moon cakes, but now it's even worse. Low-end moon cakes can still find their market, but due to their terrible taste they will inevitably fade away. Still, I can't find good quality moon cakes where I live. Low-end moon cakes dominate the market.

@Niuzaibabinaichajiameng: When I was young, I used to hate crispy moon cakes. My mother usually tried to make me eat egg yolk-filled moon cakes. Personally, I wanted to eat bean paste moon cakes. Now I've grown up, there are so many varieties to choose from.

@Little fish: I am more concerned about the usage of the moon cake boxes after the festival. I hope people can work out ways to recycle the boxes to prevent unnecessary waste.
