Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan on Monday called for enhanced service in sectors related to the basic necessities of people's lives.
Wang made the comments at a symposium on the sector in Beijing.
While hailing the remarkable achievements made by the sector since the introduction of opening up and reform policies, the official said a gap remains between people's diversified needs and the sector's structure and development.
The Beijing Municipal Commission of Transport warned on Monday that traffic jams could seriously clog Beijing's roads ahead of the holidays to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival on Sunday and the National Day on Oct. 1.
Wang stressed that authorities should provide quality services during the upcoming eight-day national holiday and ensure safety in tourist activities.
