Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi met with foreign ministers from Indonesia, Laos and Myanmar on the sidelines of the 67th session of the UN General Assembly in the United Nations headquarters on Monday.
In his meeting with Indonesian Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa, Yang said the relations between China and Indonesia are in a phase of full development, and China is willing to work with Indonesia to actively implement agreements reached by leaders from both countries, enhance strategic communication, deepen cooperation and exchanges in all areas in order to achieve greater progress in bilateral relations.
Yang said that the situation in the Asia-Pacific region is stable in general and maintains a fast developing momentum. However, the elements of instability and uncertainty are increasing. Securing growth and promoting stability and development is the common expectation of the people in this region.
"We need to hold the right direction of the regional cooperation, stick to the theme of development and make joint efforts to promote regional peace and development," he said.
"Against the circumstances of increased risks and challenges faced with the Asian economy, China and ASEAN should strengthen unity and cooperation, have a series of good summit meetings of ASEAN leaders, concentrate on pragmatic cooperation, maintain vitality of Asian economy in order to advance economic recovery and growth."
for his part, Natalegawa said as the two countries with both having impacts on the region and the world, Indonesia and China should further tap potential, expand cooperation in all areas, enhance coordination at multilateral diplomatic scenario such as the United Nations so as to safeguard the common interests of the two countries as well as those of the developing countries.
He also said China and ASEAN has maintained good cooperation, and Indonesia is ready to work with China to further deepen cooperative relations between China and ASEAN.
In his meeting with Thongloun Sisoulith, the deputy prime minister and foreign ministern of Laos, Yang said that the relations between China and Laos maintain good momentum. The leaders from both countries have reached wide agreements on bilateral ties and international and regional issues of common concern.
China is willing to work with Laos to implement the fruits of high-level meetings, stipulate and implement the action plan of China-Laos comprehensive strategic cooperation partnership, the Chinese foreign minister said.
"China is also willing to help Laos in holding the Ninth Asia-Europe Summit," Yang added.
Sisoulith said that it is of strategic significance to further develop friendly cooperation between the two countries.
Laos will make joint efforts with relevant parties to ensure the success of the holding of the Asia-Europe Summit with a view to strengthening understanding and cooperation among countries in Asia and Europe.
The Chinese foreign minister told U Wunna Maung Lwin, the foreign minister of Myanmar, during their meeting that China and Myanmar have made continuously new progress in cooperation in the areas of politics, economy and humanity.
They have also cooperated on international and regional issues, and supported each other on issues relating to their own important interests and concerns, Yang said.
"China support Myanmar in choosing its own development path based on its national conditions and is willing to cooperate with Myanmar with sincerity so as to further promote the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries," Yang said.
U Wunna Maung Lwin thanked China for having given support and help to his country for a long time.
Myanmar will implement all cooperation measures with China, enhance coordination on regional and international issue, and promote continued development of the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership with China, U Wunna Maung Lwin added.
