FM meets diplomats on sidelines of UN General Assembly

Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi met with his counterparts from Germany, Equatorial Guinea and Sri Lanka on the sidelines of the 67th session of the UN General Assembly at the UN headquarters on Tuesday.

In a meeting with German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle, Yang said China regards Germany as an important strategic partner.

"China is willing to work with Germany to implement important agreements reached by the leaders of the two countries, enhance communication and coordination, deepen cooperation of mutual benefit and improve the strategic partnership which envisions the future," he said.

Westerwelle said Germany attaches great importance to China's role and position in international affairs and the UN. He added that his country will strengthen communications and cooperation with China.

In a meeting with Agapito Mba Mokuy, minister of foreign affairs and cooperation of Equatorial Guinea, Yang said that the friendly cooperative relations between the two nations have been developing in a steady and healthy way.

China is willing to make joint efforts with Equatorial Guinea to implement the follow-up actions of the Fifth Ministerial Meeting of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation and raise the level of bilateral relations.

His counterpart thanked China for its sincere help to the economic and social development of Equatorial Guinea.

Equatorial Guinea hopes to enhance mutual support with China, make full play of their cooperation potential and strive to realize mutual benefits and achieve a win-win result, added the minister.

In a meeting with Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Gamini Lakshman Peiris, Yang said that China and Sri Lanka are traditional friendly neighbors.

China, he said, is willing to work with Sri Lanka to seize the opportunities to expand cooperation in all areas and bring the comprehensive cooperative partnership between the two countries to a higher level.

Peiris said relations between China and Sri Lanka have stood the test of time and have continuously made new progress.

Sri Lanka would like to deepen its cooperation with China and make joint efforts to open a new chapter of bilateral ties, he added.
