China's state-owned Xinhua News Agency on Wednesday launched a special edition of its English e-magazine "Read China" ahead of the upcoming National Day holidays.
The special edition intends to showcase China's development, challenges and dilemmas via stories on subjects such as medical reform, the pension system, high-speed railways construction, food safety and ethnic cultural preservation.
It also covers stories related to the 18th CPC National Congress, which will be held soon.
The special edition includes eight articles in English, "China Paves Way for Leadership Reshuffle," "Retiring Pains," "Chinese Patients Fight for Limited Resources," "China to Build More High-speed Railways," "Safe Veggie: From Farm to Fork," "Roses and Bruises," "Digital Images on Sutra Paper" and "Photographer Preserves Heart of Beijing."
"Read China" is Xinhua's first e-magazine published in English, and is available for the iPad. ( Sponsored by Xinhua's China News for World Service Department, it is a window for businesspeople to understand China's economy and explore commercial opportunities in the country.
Xinhua has recently given great attention to creating new media products that cater to the reading habits of a range of audiences.
