China's top security official on Friday urged the country's police officers to serve the people wholeheartedly by working responsibly and justly, thus paving the way for the upcoming 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

Zhou Yongkang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks at a symposium held to promote the deeds of Hao Wanzhong, an outstanding police officer in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region who died on the job at age of 41 in May 2011.

In a speech delivered with deep emotion, Zhou summarized Hao's achievements during his 17 years in the police force, namely fighting crime and easing complaints by local residents before his death from natural causes compounded by overwork.

Zhou praised the late police official's responsible work, cleanness and moral integrity, saying he has set a good example for the country's government workers in political and legal circles.

"Currently, public security authorities at all levels are learning and implementing the spirit of key speeches made by Hu Jintao, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, and striving to create a harmonious and stable environment for the CPC's 18th national congress," he pointed out.

Zhou, who is also secretary of the Political Science and Law Committee of the CPC Central Committee, urged the country's police officials of all levels to learn from Hao and mobilize police officers to improve work.
