The Communist Party of China (CPC) has led the Chinese people to remarkable achievements through its unremitting efforts and hard work over the past 63 years, top political advisor Jia Qinglin said Friday.
Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the country's top political advisory body, addressed a reception marking the 63rd anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, which falls on Monday.
Jia said the central government will continue to unswervingly support the governments of the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions in exercising power according to the law and expanding the regions' exchanges and cooperation with the mainland.
He said earnest efforts will be made to continuously enhance the political, economic, cultural and social foundations for the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations to pave way for the peaceful reunification of the motherland.
Overseas Chinese are important sources for boosting the development of China, Jia said, adding that the utmost efforts will be made to unite Chinese both at home and abroad to achieve the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
Vice President Xi Jinping and Vice Premier Li Keqiang, together with other senior officials and more than 3,500 people from home and abroad, attended the reception.
The reception in the Great Hall of the People was jointly carried out by the General Office of the CPPCC National Committee, the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee, the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council and the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council.
