A suspect has been detained by police in Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, hours after a plane made a forced landing because of a terrorist threat he allegedly fabricated.
The man, surnamed Wang, confessed to the police that he made the fake terrorist threat that led to the forced landing of the China Southern Airlines flight.
Travelling from Istanbul to Beijing via Urumqi, flight CZ680 made an emergency landing at Zhongchuan Airport in Lanzhou, capital of Gansu province at around 5:30 pm Monday.
All 196 people on-board, including 186 passengers and 10 crew members, were evacuated immediately after the landing. After security clearance, the plane took off at 10:44 pm for Beijing. Police said Wang's motive is under investigation.
