A new film based on the life of Xu Haifeng, China's first Olympic gold medal winner, premiered in Beijing on Sunday.
Named Champion, the film tells how Xu, who used to be an ordinary employee at a local supply and marketing cooperative in his home province of Anhui, gradually became a marksman and succeeded in international competitions through hard work.
During the 23rd Olympics in Los Angeles, he won the shooting gold medal with his decisive final three shots, and immediately became a national hero.
The film, which was produced jointly by the Anhui Film Group, the Hexian county government in Anhui and several other organizations, will be in cinemas in early November.
"The film not only tells my personal experience, but also talks about the spirit of our national shooting team, and the history of Chinese people trying to compete for national glory on the world stage after China's opening-up policy," Xu said at the premier.
Xu joined the crew to train actors in person for the shooting scenes. This is the first film to feature China's shooting sportsmen.
