2012-10-15 17:06 Xinhua     Web Editor: Gu Liping comment

Rescuers had pulled two people out of the debris of a collapsed office building by noon on Monday in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, but an unknown number of people may still be buried.

The two injured people pulled from the debris have been sent to hospital.

Search and rescue work is ongoing. More than 100 rescuers led by city officials joined rescue efforts after the eastern wing of the building fell off at about 7:50 a.m.

The rescue team quoted some witnesses as saying that five people might have been buried in the accident.

At the time of the accident, hanging scaffolding surrounded the four-story office building owned by Jixian County Water Company, as the building's outer walls were being renovated.
