Qin relics exhibition in HK welcomes 300,000th visitor

The highly popular exhibition "the Majesty of All Under Heaven: The Eternal Realm of China's First Emperor" being held at the Hong Kong Museum of History received its 300,000th visitor on Tuesday, breaking attendance records at the museum.

The 300,000th visitor was received by the director of Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government Betty Fung, and the executive director of Charities of the Hong Kong Jockey Club Douglas So, and was presented with two souvenir packs given out by the LCSD and the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust.

Since its opening on July 25, the exhibition has attracted 300,000 visitors with an average daily attendance of 3,750 visitors, breaking the attendance records for thematic exhibitions organized by the Hong Kong Museum of History.

The "War and Peace - Treasures of the Qin and Han Dynasties" exhibition held in 2002 received more than 230,000 visitors with an average daily attendance of about 2,500 while the "Centenary of China's 1911 Revolution" held last year attracted more than 140,000 visitors with an average daily attendance of about 2,100.

Fung said the exhibition demonstrated its strong appeal to the public with its rich contents and extensive use of innovative multimedia programs, which brought visitors a brand new experience in viewing a history exhibition.

Lots of visitors appreciated the rare opportunity to view closely the 20 terracotta figures of different types as well as other invaluable Qin dynasty relics on display.

Jointly presented by the LCSD and the Shaanxi Provincial Cultural Relics Bureau, the exhibition is co-organized by the Hong Kong Museum of History and the Shaanxi Cultural Heritage Promotion Center, and will run until Nov. 26.

It is one of the highlight programs celebrating the 15th anniversary of the establishment of HKSAR.
