Senior Chinese leader Li Changchun on Tuesday expressed his appreciation for the achievements made in China's publicity, ideological and cultural fields over the last five years.
Li, a Standing Committee member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the remarks at a meeting he presided over on Tuesday.
He urged efforts to follow the future arrangements of the upcoming 18th CPC National Congress and make further contributions.
In the five years since the last CPC National Congress, the work of publicity, ideological and cultural officials has helped the country to seek agreements and unite the people against the background of profound changes in the international situation, arduous tasks regarding domestic development and more diverse public opinions, Li said.
Achievements have been made in Marxism theory research, journalism-related publicity, innovation regarding reports on major emergencies and events and the promotion of the socialist core value system.
Moral education for juvenile and college students has been strengthened and improved and "red tourism" at the country's revolutionary sites has witnessed healthy development, Li said.
Reform efforts in the country's cultural system have seen progress and the cultural service system has been further improved, the official said.
Li also praised innovations made in international communication and cultural exchanges, adding that the international communication capability of key news organizations has been promoted.
Li said the country's cultural products and services are globalizing, adding that the Internet and mobile communication are playing a more important role in promoting socialist culture.
Li called for efforts to adhere to socialist core values, as well as respect different and diversified opinions.
Efforts should also be made to promote China's "soft power" and the international competitiveness and influence of Chinese culture, Li said.
He also stressed the importance of adhering to the CPC's leadership.
