One worker has died and 14 were injured after they were struck by falling steel rods in an accident at a construction site for the Hong Kong-Macau-Zhuhai bridge, local media reported on Thursday.
Among the 14, two are critically injured and two in serious condition. Ten others are being treated in hospitals with less serious injuries.
The accident happened on an artificial island near the airport at Chek Lap Kok.
Senior fire officer Ng Tsz-yeun said that steel rods being lifted at the construction site suddenly fell down, and a group of workers who were standing below were struck.
Safety inspectors from Hong Kong's Labor Department have gone to the scene to carry out an investigation into cause of the accident.
The 50 km bridge linking the territory to Zhuhai and Macau is due for completion in 2016.
