Four people were killed and five others injured when a ramp to an under-construction bridge collapsed on Thursday morning in southwest China's Yunnan Province, according to a local government statement released on Friday.
The accident occurred at around 9:30 a.m., when the upper part of the approach ramp to the Nanpanjiang Bridge collapsed, burying nine workers in Mile County, said the statement from the publicity office of the county's government.
Three workers died at the scene and another died in hospital.
Five others who were injured remain hospitalized.
The ramp, which buttresses a neighboring mountain, is used to prevent landslides. The main part of the bridge was not affected by the collapse, the statement said.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
